At St Joseph and St Bede, we believe that Geography holds the key to understanding the wider world and promotes as Awe and Wonder at God’s creation. Through quality first teaching, our Geography curriculum enables children to gain essential substantive and disciplinary knowledge and develop a growing understanding of places; locality, United Kingdom and in the world, which are built upon yearly. Children will understand key physical and human geographical features of the world and how they may change over time. They will learn key skills including; how to use, draw and interpret maps, problem solving skills, ICT and investigation in the most appropriate way.

Our curriculum supports our children’s knowledge of other cultures and, in so doing, teaches a respect and understanding of what it means to be a positive citizen in a multi-cultural country and a diverse, interconnected world. Young Geographers will be able to know and understand environmental problems at a local, regional and global level whilst developing empathy for social justice and human rights. Through embracing Pope Francis’ message of ‘Laudato Si’,  our children will understand the importance of sustainable development and have an appreciation of what ‘global citizenship’ truly means.

Our Geography Subject Lead is Miss Keiley.
