At St Joseph and St Bede, we have planned and crafted a bespoke curriculum offer that encourages deeper thinking, making connections and is built upon principles of enquiry, engagement and greater pupil involvement in their learning. We use Learning Challenges across our curriculum, partnered with enquiry questions and ‘Big Questions’ to encourage pupils to think and reflect more deeply on their learning and forge meaningful connections between topics studied and the world in which they live.
In designing the curriculum, teachers and learners are using a prime learning challenges, expressed as questions, as the starting points. We embrace a topic-led curriculum, with a driver subject for each topic and cross curricular links made in a meaningful way. Our topics build upon a sequence of essential knowledge and ‘sticky vocabulary’ that is planned and sequenced to ensure progression through the key stages. We embrace a wider curriculum and plan for a variety of wider educational experiences that celebrate our local area, our forest school and farm, as well and reaching further afield through varied and engaging educational visits and residentials.
